Hemp – The Win Win in going green

"Green" production

Did you know that for every pound of cotton produced, about 5300 gallons of water is required? - We didn't know that either. But knowing today that hemp requires half that amount and that hemp produces up to 2.5 times more fiber per square meters, are just two of the reasons why hemp beats cotton and why Philbert prefers hemp. Another reason is that about 25% of the world's pesticide consumption goes into producing today's cotton consumption. The production of hemp, on the other hand, requires significantly less. Significantly less is somewhat of an understatement, however, as the production of hemp does not need any pesticides at all.

Hemp "rainbow"

Hemp fibers can be removed from the stem of a hemp plant in various ways. By choosing between the different ways, it is possible to get hemp fibers in brown, grey, green, black and even cream white – without the use of dye. Although it is still possible to dye hemp fibers to achieve the desired color, the many natural colors that hemp can be produced in means that compared to several other fabrics, hemp is the environmentally friendly way to go.

Long life and durability

The strong natural hemp fibers extend the life of hemp-made products compared to similar products made from other materials. The durability of hemp fibers ensures that wear and tear from daily use is less of a problem, as you can expect hemp products to last for years. Therefore, hemp is the way to go, for both the environmentally concerned consumer and the quality concerned consumer.

It really is a Win Win.

Vegan leather

What is vegan leather?

Vegan leather contains absolutely no animal ingredients.

As a textile, it stands out due to its high durability and unique appearance. With features such as waterproof, stain resistant and easy to maintain, it is a perfect alternative to expensive leather.

Features of top quality vegan leather / microfiber resin leather:

1. Same appearance and same hand feel and comfortable touch as leather.

2. Superior durability, tensile strength, breaking strength, tear strength, peeling strength, abrasion resistance, hydrolysis resistance over all leather.

3. Good chemical resistance, acid resistant, alkali resistant, not easy mildew.

4. 30% lighter weight than leather.

5. Environmentally friendly, non-toxic (harmless) and recycled.

6. Easy to clean and maintain.

Microfiber vegan leather

Microfiber leather is the result of a technologically advanced manufacturing technique that involves combining microfiber and PU to create a durable leather alternative. Microfiber is 30% less harmful to the environment compared to animal leather in terms of water consumption, eutrophication and global warming. Besides being more environmentally friendly, Micro-Fiber also contains several wonderful properties that animal leather lacks, such as:

Water resistant: Our vegan leather has a lightweight PU coating surface that wicks away moisture and liquids.

Scratch-resistant: Microfibre's durability enables our products to fight scratches, stains and wear. Test: Run your fingernail across our microfiber leather to test for scratch resistance, and it's a lightweight material.

Our choice to use Soy-Ink.

Better colors with fewer.

In the late 1980s, soy-based ink began its journey to become the standard in eco-friendly ink that it is considered today. Compared to petroleum-based inks, we are able to produce the same high-intensity colors with less ink with soy ink. Furthermore, soy ink allows us to produce brighter and sharper images and text due to its naturally clearer soybean oil than would be possible using conventional printing.

Eco-friendly, recyclable, sustainability.

VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) are pollutants that pose an environmental threat and a health hazard to people all over the world. At Philbert we are happy to use soy inks which emit less than 20% VOCs compared to petroleum based inks. Research from Western Michigan University shows that it is noticeably easier to recycle materials containing soy ink, and that even if not recycled, soy ink is more than four times more biodegradable than standard ink. Philbert's products are quality and you would rightly expect to enjoy them year after year. Although everything comes to an end - with our soy ink products, we know that our choice of ink makes them highly recyclable and biodegradable. Finally, do not fear that we will run out - soy ink is a renewable resource and a by-product of soybean cultivation. Philbert will continue to use soy ink until perhaps another, more environmentally friendly ink is invented.

Our leather

The choice of leather at Philbert is top grain cowhide from the USA. By using top grain leather, we ensure the best leather quality of leather, and are able to give the leather a uniform appearance. By only using leather from the USA, we give you 3 reasons to choose leather products from Philbert. The best quality, the best appearance and ensuring a high standard of animal welfare.

PU leather is a good alternative to genuine leather. It has some of the features that we love when using leather. We are able to give the products the characteristic leather look that makes everything look much better. So whether you choose our genuine leather products or PU, you will own some truly beautiful Philbert products.

When packaging becomes more than just packaging

At Philbert, the environment is an important pillar of the company. Whether it's the product itself or the packaging, you now know that everything is designed and produced with the environment in mind. All our packaging is made from recycled cardboard and is produced to be reused again. Even the plastic “window” in our keyboard cover packaging is made of polyethylene terephthalate (PET). This plastic is recyclable and known not to leach chemicals suspected of causing cancer or disrupting hormones.

RoHS/CE certification

And last but not least, we are proud to put the RoHS logo on our Solar Power Bank. The RoHS/CE certification is only achieved when none of the environmentally hazardous substances described in the RoHS directive are used.

And of course – all our products comply with EU standards and regulations. Offering "green" quality products is not always the easiest, but choosing environmentally friendly quality products has never been easier - Philbert.
